The Radiotherapy Service in Truro is looking for Therapeutic Radiographers with a professional manner and high personal standards and drive. The department has a wide bore CT, SGRT, 6DoF couches, 4DCBCT and electron facilities, and a superficial unit.

In addition to this, the service runs Radiographer-led clinics involving prostate support, on treatment review, late effects, and follow up clinics. We are looking for someone to work within the pre-treatment and treatment teams during this exciting time of continued service development across all areas.

Applicants must have a high level of technical competence, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and hardworking with a positive can-do attitude. The ability to remain calm under pressure and to integrate well with the existing teams are essential attributes of any applicants.

Hours of work may be flexible and will reflect the needs of the service. Radiotherapy treatment is routinely delivered with shifts between 7.30am and 6.00pm, Monday to Friday, some shift working may be required on service days until 8.00pm.

Main duties of the job

As part of the team, you will be responsible for the accurate delivery of radiotherapy.

Responsible for maintaining the highest professional standards in the care and treatment of patients undergoing radiotherapy in line with nationally and locally agreed standards

Responsible for the accurate pre and post processing of treatments/checking and interpretation of treatment plans and prescriptions.

Responsible for calculation of v-sim treatments and checking correct data entry on the treatment workstation.

Responsible for the safe use of highly complex and expensive equipment.

Responsible for ensuring students are trained appropriately and follow departmental procedures.

We are currently undergoing a linac replacement programme for two new Truebeam linear accelerators. The first one being installed in April 2025. We commissioned SGRT last year and are working towards going tattooless for all patients.

We have an active Clinical Trials department and participate in many trials.

We are currently expanding the service to include radiographer specialist roles to support patients along their treatment pathway.

As a department we actively support our staff undertaking MSc modules and courses. We encourage our staff of all bands to be involved in departmental projects, developing their skillset and knowledge.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Hons) in Radiotherapy or equivalent
  • HCPC Registration
  • Level 4 in English or equivalent, or IELTS level 6
  • Commitment to own continuing professional development

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Fully completed application form with attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, listening, verbal and non-verbal
  • IT literate
  • Knowledge of IR(ME)R 2017 and IRR (2017) and responsibilities relating to own professional practice.

Desirable

  • Specific interest in working in Cornwall
  • Knowledge of new developments in Radiotherapy

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of using modern radiotherapy equipment and verification systems

Desirable

  • Experience of working on Truebeam Linear Accelerators
  • High level of technical competentce
  • Experience of using SGRT
  • Has worked in a NHS environment
