Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Performance Information Team who are seeking to appoint a Data Solutions Developer to support the Data Solutions Team in the development and maintenance of data warehousing and BI solutions on behalf of the Trust.

The successful candidate will have access to the NHS apprenticeship scheme with opportunity to study further academic qualifications.

Main duties of the job

This post will provide support for Business As Usual (BAU), including daily process checks and the timely delivery of regular submission/reporting requirements. In doing so, the post holder will develop a robust knowledge of NHS and Trust datasets, and the wider Data Warehouse.

The role will offer the candidate the opportunity to familiarise themselves with a range of health systems and datasets, working closely with Information Analysts to support clinical staff and inform operational processes.

They will also be part of a team that transforms the existing data warehouse as the organisation seeks to increase data maturity on its journey moving to cloud hosting as part of a three-year digital data strategy.

Job responsibilities

Technical skills include SQL (and other data manipulation languages), ETL tools, understanding RDBMS, Excel and BI Reporting tools such as SSRS and Power BI.

Data Warehousing / Data & Server Management

  • Participate in the development of data marts, data extracts and ETL/ELT processes in support of the Trusts federated Corporate Data Warehouse and the provision of a Single Source of Fact
  • To ensure that all developments and changes are fully documented, auditable and change control policies are adhered to
  • To liaise with external agencies, clinical users, & trust staff as required to support the development of the service to meet the needs of its users
  • To comply to standards in respect of database administration, ETL and data modelling, incorporating full documentation to support change control mechanisms and audit requirements
  • To perform continuous reviews on best practice for data transformation, data modelling and information reporting
  • To undertake other duties as designated by the Data Solutions Architect
  • To assist on the design, development & maintenance of the Corporate Data Warehouse which acts as the single platform for reporting utilising the most appropriate technologies.
  • To work as part of the team developing and deploying a cloud data warehouse solution

Special Features This role has a frequent requirement for intense concentration whilst developing & analysing complex database solutions.

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrable experience and demonstrable understanding of Relational Database Design & Managements.
  • Proven knowledge of ETL/ELT
  • Proven knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server, SSMS, SSIS and BIDS (or equivalent).
  • Strong proven SQL/T-SQL knowledge

Desirable

  • Understanding of multi-dimensional modelling
  • A good proven knowledge across a multitude of NHS datasets and the complex data schemas and the Information it pertains to.
  • Proven knowledge of Azure, Data Vault, Agile, Power BI
  • Proven knowledge of alternative data structures such as XML, JSON
  • Demonstrable experience of working with programming/scripting languages such as VB.Net, PowerShell

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in relevant subject
  • Educated to A level, similar qualifications, or work experience, or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Or equivalent demonstrable experience

  • Equivalent demonstrable experience in numerate/ informatics subject
