Job Summary

This post is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacy technician to join our friendly pharmacy team in delivering a high quality pharmacy service to our patients.

The successful candidate will work between clinical services (ward and dispensary). We are a department that is committed to the extended role of technicians and you will be encouraged to develop your skills in all aspects of hospital pharmacy practice in our busy department.

Applicants will hold a valid BTEC & NVQ level 3 Pharmaceutical Science Certificate and be registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). Clinical Trials experience is desirable.

The pharmacy team has a proven track record of innovation and delivering excellent patient care as part of the wider MDT. You will be joining a supportive team where the focus is about working hard but having the correct work life balance. Main duties of the job

  1. Provide a medicines management service to an inpatient ward including drug history, and medicines reconciliation.
  2. Responsible for safe, efficient and effective checking of prescriptions dispensed by other members of the pharmacy team in the dispensary and ward based (including Clinical Trials).
  3. Being part of the ward MDT and the wider pharmacy team. This includes being part of the pharmacy weekend and bank holiday rota.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NVQ3 and BTEC in pharmaceutical science (or equivalent)
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician and Medicines Management qualified

Experience

Essential

  • Significant experience of working in a hospital pharmacy department. (working in another pharmacy setting depending on experience)
  • Experience of managing staff. Ability to work as a ‘lead’ technician

Desirable

  • Teaching experience

Apitude and Abilities

Essential

  • Ability to manage the day-to-day provision of pharmacy service within area
  • Ability to provide good verbal/written communication skills and motivate
  • Able to work as part of a team. Ability to problem solve, prioritise, innovative and well organised
