Job Summary

The post-holder is expected to be a key and dynamic member of the Cardiac Physiology team, at the complex and advanced healthcare scientist level. They will be using their insight and knowledge to provide complex technical/scientific expertise for all areas of invasive Cardiology.

Areas of focus will include independently delivering diagnostic and complex interventional angiography, including on-call for the primary PCI service and the CRM service.

The post holder will need independent invasive technical expertise for simple and complex device implants and follow-up, both on and off site.

There is the possibility for the post holder to develop knowledge in structural work and electrophysiology procedures and take up higher level qualifications and accreditation.

The role is a scientific one and as such the post holder will be expected to have a high level of skill and autonomy, equivalent to the independence expected of a clinical scientist at band 7. The post holder will be expected to be able to carry out complex scientific and clinical investigations, working directly with patients and MDTs, to analyse, interpret and compare investigative and clinical options at a complex and advanced level, create reports, risk assess and and prioritise patient care options.

There will be some managerial responsibility within the service such as recruitment, education, information technology, e-rostering, procurement incidents investigation and deputising for departmental leads.

Main duties of the job

Knowledge of Spacelabs ECG Holter Analysis system or other analysis systems

Knowledge of Tomcat or CVIS booking systems and / or Lorenzo

Knowledge of a range of ECG and BP Monitoring Devices.

Basic Life Support

Knowledge of ECG standards e.g. SCST standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Clinical Cardiac Science or equivalent

Desirable

  • MSc Cardiac Science
  • Accreditation with BHRS, IBHRE, EHRA or other equivalent in the clinical management of cardiac devices
  • Registered with RCCP or registration with the AHCS as a Cardiac Scientist or STP Equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of simple and complex device (ICD, CRT-D) implants and follow-up (both on and off-site).
  • Diagnostic and interventional angiography, including on-call for the primary PCI service and adjunctive technologies such as IVUS,OCT and Pressure wire
  • Advanced knowledge of pacing and ICD complications and ability to troubleshoot these issues
  • Advanced Knowledge of all the major CRM companies CRM devices.
  • Have a confident expert knowledge of the physiology of the heart
  • Extensive Cardiac Physiology experience post qualification at BSc or equivalent level.
  • Leadership skills
  • Line management experience including doing appraisals for staff
  • Teaching and mentoring skills for a range of other staff
  • Ability to maintain a CPD folder

Desirable

  • Structural cardiology such as TAVI and ASD closures.
  • Electrophysiology procedures, including 3D mapping using the latest technologies and software.
  • On call experience
  • Audit experience in Cardiology
  • Presentation skills at regional or national level
