Job Summary
This is an exciting opportunity for someone looking to expand their experience and knowledge of applied psychology to join our inpatient and community forensic services. Our patient/ service user group includes men and women with learning/ intellectual disability and/ or autism alongside highly complex needs who have been in contact with the criminal justice system.
Within the inpatient work, you will contribute to the delivery of a high-quality Psychology service to men detained under the Mental Health Act at a Low Secure ward (Amber Lodge) in Doncaster. This role will provide you with opportunity to work collaboratively with a full multidisciplinary team and to deliver under supervision a range of psychological activities including assessment, intervention, and research/ audit. You will assist in complex evaluations of patients’ presentation and criminal behaviour, support the development and communication of psychological formulations, and provide data analysis to support the MDT. All patients require secure care as a result of engaging in criminal or high-risk behaviour such as sexual or non-sexual aggression, fire-setting, and self-injury.
This is an interesting and challenging post for a Psychology graduate looking for experience prior to making an application for professional training as a Practitioner Psychologist.
Main duties of the job
To assist and support the work of Registered Psychologists in delivering psychological assessments and evidence-based interventions to adults with a forensic history and learning disabilities and/ or autism. This will include direct and indirect contact with clients living in residential or community settings, and their carers, along with liaison with the multidisciplinary team and referrers/agencies as required.
In addition, the post involves assisting the psychology team in clinically related administration, audit, evaluation, statistical analysis, and ongoing project work. The Assistant Psychologist will work independently according to a plan agreed with a Registered Psychologist and within the overall framework of the Trust’s policies and procedures.
