Job Summary

Band 5 Dietitian – Full time (37.5 hours) – permanent – Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust sites.

We are looking for a dietitian to join our friendly and dynamic team at Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT).

These rotational band 5 posts cover the Royal Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital and the Aintree Hospital sites. These posts offer new or soon to be qualified dietitians the setting to develop their clinical skills.

There are rotations covering areas such as respiratory medicine, general medicine, cardiology, orthopaedics, general surgery and gerontology.

You will be supported in developing your skills and knowledge in each clinical area via practice supervision, preceptorship and a robust band 5 development programme.

Main duties of the job

Collect all relevant medical/social/biochemical and pharmacological information. Undertake nutritional/dietary assessments. Devise and agree with patient and/or carer a nutritional care plan

Inform health care professionals of nutritional care plan; completing documents or writing in patients’ medical notes. Monitor progress on care plans, informing health care professionals of any changes. Ensure effective communication when giving nutrition advice to individuals/groups; giving technical information in a way they can understand

Use counselling skills to assess motivation/overcome barriers to change

Liaise with caterers to ensure provision of suitable meals and snacks for patients

Attend ward rounds, case conferences and meetings to reinforce role of nutrition in patient care

Supervise student dietitians

Liaise with colleagues in primary care, and other agencies referring patients as needed, ensuring continuity of care

Plan and prioritise own caseload in collaboration with seniors.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc in Nutrition and Dietetics or postgraduate Diploma.
  • Current or pending registration with HPC.
  • Membership of BDA or equivalent professional indemnity.

Experience

Essential

  • Time management – able to prioritise work, respond appropriately to demands and keep to time in out patient setting

Desirable

  • Clinical placement conducted within both acute teaching and primary care environments
  • Experience of multi-disciplinary working.

Skills

Essential

  • Communication skills to effectively convey information, both written and verbal.
  • Problem solving skills.

Desirable

  • I.T. Skills
