We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, skilled and caring individual to join us as a Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner within The Milton Keynes Neurological Conditions Service. Based in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, the Neurological Conditions Service is a specialist multidisciplinary team, providing holistic, goal orientated rehabilitation and long term condition support for people with neurological conditions. The service aims to help people to achieve their optimal potential in their home, social and community lives and to facilitate and support individuals and their families to understand, adjust to and manage their condition.
You will need to demonstrate that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and that you are able to work on your own initiative and as part of a team.
You will be working primarily alongside experienced and specialist neurological Physiotherapists and you will also have the opportunity to work with Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Neurological Clinical Specialists, Speech therapists and rehabilitation assistants as part of a MDT.
Applicants must have a full UK driving license, access to a car and able to attend a face to face interview at our base in Milton Keynes.

Main duties of the job
The Band 4 Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner role involves supporting the physiotherapy team in providing high quality physiotherapeutic intervention and support to our service users. You will hold a caseload of patients and undertake or support the delivery of treatment programmes, care plans, group exercise classes and rehabilitation activities as delegated to you by registered physiotherapists. You will be seeing service users within our outpatient unit, as well as in people’s homes or in the local community (including gyms); supporting participation and carrying out treatment plans to support service users to achieve agreed therapy goals and to maximise their quality of life and functional ability. You will also support the team with relevant administrative tasks where required.

Education and Qualifications
Essential
- NVQ LEVEL 3/Apprenticeship Health & Social care level 3 or equivalent life skills acquired through experience.
- Full & current UK driving license & provision of vehicle
- Spoken and written English, to an appropriate standard to fulfil the job requirements.
Desirable
- Associate member of the CSP
- To have undertaken further education in a relevant health and social care subject
Previous Experience
Essential
- To have experience working with and/or within a multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and to understand the benefits.
- Experience of working with the frail, elderly, and those with cognitive impairment.
- Awareness of NHS & Trust systems, policies, procedures & current challenges.
- Experience of being able to adapt communication to match patient needs.
Desirable
- To have worked as a physiotherapy assistant/Assistant Practitioner in a community setting within the NHS.
- Experience of providing teaching/ training to other staff members, patients and their carers.
- Experience of delivering exercise-based group interventions

- To have a sound understanding of the role of the physiotherapy team within an MDT in acute and community settings.
- Able to work autonomously and undertake physiotherapeutic assessments and apply treatment programmes.in patient’s homes, community and in an out-patient settings.
- Understanding of and experience in manual handling.
- Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes.
- Health & safety and risk awareness and management
- Proven time management skills and ability to organise and prioritise own case load.
- IT literacy / presentation skills.
- A basic understanding of common neurological, medical and orthopedic conditions.
