Job Summary

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be expected to give clinical and administrative support to coordinate the care for cancer patients throughout their treatment pathway

As a Cancer Support Worker you will ensure that patients’ needs are assessed and responded to appropriately, signposting to local and national resources and support, using evidence-based patient information

You will work the Macmillan Head & Neck Clinical Nurse Specialists and the multidisciplinary team to provide support and advice for patients following a diagnosis of Head & Neck/Thyroid cancer, helping to manage the stratified follow-up pathway

You will work with the Macmillan Head & Neck Clinical Nurse Specialists and in partnership with the Macmillan Personalised Care and Support Facilitator to support all aspects of personalised care and support planning for your designated tumour site.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to GCSE A level or equivalent and care certificate or Equivalent experience across a range of health or social care settings AfC Band 3 or above

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Insight into cancer and related issues
  • Awareness of needs of people affected by cancer

Experience

  • Experience in patient or public facing role
  • Dealing with routine and complex problems
  • Multiprofessional working
