Job Summary

We are currently recruiting Advanced Therapy Assistants to our musculoskeletal and physiotherapy services, this will also include our talent pool (reserve list).

We at Guys and St Thomas’ Foundation NHS Trust physiotherapy department are looking for you to come and join our physiotherapy team as an Advanced Physiotherapy Assistant especially if you have been working in exercise rehabilitation or the exercise health sector. We work in several specialties of physiotherapy which includes outpatients and/or providing rehabilitation in gyms.

Main duties of the job

Working with patients with a variety of acute and chronic MSK conditions.Independent 1:1 caseload of (remote rehabilitation and face to face working).

Can involve managing an inpatient or outpatient caseload.

Administration duties within your role and the team.

Progression or regression of patient exercise plan.

Organising and delivering remote and in person classes.

Hydrotherapy, exercise prescription and multidisciplinary working.

The role also includes working with Physiotherapists in the outpatient setting.

  • Physically fit and able to carry out moderate physical effort throughout the working day

Skills

Essential

  • Highly skilled and technically specialised in treating in a clinical, gym or gym environment
  • Knowledge and experience of a range of manual handling techniques.
  • Knowledge of health care delivery and the role of the physiotherapist
  • Work with guidelines and protocols without immediate supervision
  • Able to maintain own caseload of patients with complex conditions requiring technical proficiency/ knowledge, as delegated by the physiotherapist
  • Ability to manage large groups of patients at one time
  • Ability to teach other members of the team
  • Ability to work effectively and contribute as a member of a multi-therapy and multi-disciplinary team.
  • Able to present information, written and orally, in a clear and logical manner and maintain legible and accurate notes in the POMR system
  • Recognise boundaries of own responsibilities
  • Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust’s policies of data protection, equal opportunities and Health and Safety to meet the differing needs of the patients
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of confidentiality both written and verbal and how this applies to the physiotherapy environment
  • Ability to communicate clinical information or advice to patients and relatives in a clear, understandable and effective manner.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal skills
  • Evidence of being self-motivated
  • Communicate and work effectively with other clinical staff and patients from a diverse range of social and cultural backgrounds range

Desirable

  • Good awareness of clinical governance issues related to the physiotherapy environment
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Experience of supervision and /or management of a small team of people

Experience

Essential

  • Patient treatment experience using relevant clinical skills
  • Experience of assessing patients requiring walking/other aids and instruct them in their proper and safe usage.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in sports and fitness industry
  • Previous experience as a physio assistant
  • Experience of supervision and /or management of a small team of people
  • Experience of management of exercise equipment including monitoring use and maintenance

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

  • Evidence of literacy and numeracy to GCSE level
  • Foundation degree in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Committed to own personal development

Desirable

  • Sports and fitness diploma / degree
  • Member of Assistants CIG
