Hywel Dda are offering an exciting opportunity for a passionate, motivated, forward-thinking pharmacist to advance their clinical experience and training and provide high quality care to our patients.

This post provides a unique opportunity to rotate through services specialising in delivering oncology and haematology treatments to our patients.

You will be an integral member of the technical services team at Withybush hospital and work as part of the MDT on the inpatient cancer ward and support oncology/haematology clinics. You will be mentored by our established team of specialist oncology pharmacists who are fully integrated into the multidisciplinary team, each of them manage a pharmacist led oncology clinic utilising their non-medical prescriber skills in lung, breast and urological cancer.

This post offers the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills through a clinical diploma and the option to undertake and use a non-medical prescribing qualification.

Main duties of the job

To provide a clinical pharmacy service to patients and wards in accordance with clinical guidelines, specialising in oncology and haematology.

To participate in the pharmacy technical services rota.

To be involved in audit and service improvement activities within cancer services and pharmacy technical services.

To act as a role model and to train and supervise other pharmacy staff as allocated. This may include undergraduate pharmacy students and pre-registration pharmacists.

To undertake the role of responsible pharmacist, undertake Emergency Duty Commitment (on-call) and work weekends and Bank holidays as part of a rota.

The post includes formal development opportunities from either the structured HEIW Post-registration Foundation Training Programme or a distance learning clinical diploma. Both these qualifications provide the foundation for excellent career development and a platform for professional and personal development. To meet the criteria for the HEIW post-Foundation training programme you must be qualifying in July 2025 or have registered with the GPhC after July 2024.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Masters degree in pharmacy (4 years or equivalent)
  • Member of General Pharmaceutical Council (registered pharmacist or pre-registration pharmacy trainee during applications, must be registered pharmacist at time of start date)
  • English language qualification – GCSE grade C or above or IELTS score of 6.5 in writing and 6.0 in all other components.
  • Professional knowledge of medicines managements systems and process in an integrated NHS.

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of healthcare in a pharmacy

  • Demonstrate achievement in more than one area of medicines management

  • Experience of teaching & supervision of pre-registration pharmacists, technicians and assistants
  • Primary care experience
