Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Pathology IT team at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust for an experienced Systems Administrator to support Transfusion IT systems across both Sutton and Chelsea sites. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who have a health professional background and understand the requirements of Blood Transfusion service and legislation.The post will require business analysis, project management, troubleshooting, incident & problem management, integration and system configuration skills. It would also be beneficial for the post holder to have experience of end user training.The role requires working closely with the clinical and scientific transfusion teams. There will be an expectation for the post holder to be able to work autonomously.The post holder will have the opportunity to develop a wider experience of IT systems as support and training will be provided to support other IT systems across Pathology, including the management of service critical IT applications.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be the system administrator and primary support specialist of the Blood Transfusion Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and for the electronic blood tracking system. These systems are intended to support laboratory processes, and clinical transfusion including pre transfusion sample management, fridge and cold chain management, and administration of blood components including the traceability of components. This is a key role in the implementation and maintenance of the Transfusion LIMS and blood tracking systems which will involve understanding business needs and translating these into system solutions and delivering end user training and support.

The post holder will participate in on-going configuration of the systems to meet the demands of a fast-changing clinical area. They will be expected to extract and manipulate data as required by the department, the wider Trust and external bodies. The post holder will be a point of contact for matters relating to information and technology solutions for Transfusion including fault finding, system configuration, activity and information reporting, and end user training management and delivery.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • ITIL Foundation qualification or experience in leading system change
  • Degree is Biomedical Science or Transfusion related

Experience

Essential

  • Good working knowledge of IT hardware and software
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Experience in laboratory systems administration, and end user support
  • Production of quality documentation around systems implementation and operation
  • Experience in project delivery of clinical systems or laboratory equipment.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with multiple hospital systems, preferably within Pathology and Blood Transfusion
  • Infrastructure & networking experience
  • Experience of working with systems undergoing constant change, consisting of formal projects and ‘BAU’ changes
  • Experience of engaging with suppliers

  • Knowledgeable of IT systems management, best practice and relevant standard requirements
  • Knowledgeable of information security, data protection, and best practice management of patient and clinical information.
  • Ability to analyse systems workflow and problem solve independently

  • Production of system documents and standard operating procedures for technical and/or scientific teams
