Main duties of the job

You will support Registered Therapists in assessing and treating patients with a diagnosis of stroke. An Assistant Practitioner undertakes highly skilled and specialised support work from referrals screened by a member of the Stroke AHP. This may include gathering information for assessments, implementing treatment programmes, and making recommendations for equipment and minor adaptations.

The Assistant Practitioner will use technical and creative skills in the provision of therapeutic activities for individual patients and will be responsible for evaluating and amending treatment programmes and interventions with guidance from the Registered AHP. The Excellent care with compassion post holder will take responsibility for their own work within a broad framework laid out by a Registered AHP.

You will be responsible for delivering defined Therapy input without direct supervision, but will have immediate access to a Registered AHP for advice and direction as required.The work will take place in the Acute Hospital setting at the Acute Stroke Unit (based at Royal Preston Hospital) and the Stroke Rehabilitation Ward (at Chorley Hospital). The service is currently delivered over 6 days however this is due to by extended to 7 days in the future.

Qualifications

Essential

  • University entry requirements of: -UCAS: 72 – 80 points at A2 or equivalent such as: -BTEC Extended Diploma: MPP -Access to Higher Education Diploma: 72 – 80 points
  • GCSEs: Maths and English at Grade C/4 or equivalent such as Level 2 functional skills in Maths and English

Desirable

  • Care certificate
  • Relevant qualifications/ certificates in health/social care

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of stroke and the current health climate
  • Customer care experience
  • Working with people
  • Knowledge and experience of team working principles

Desirable

  • Experience working in health and social care
  • Experience working with AHPs
  • Dealing with complaints and confrontation
