We are recruiting a new team to work on our exciting new Electronic Patient Record (EPR) programme.
Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust is bringing in a new Electronic Patient Record. This is major transformation programme that will affect almost all Trust employees, supporting them to provide better quality care for our patients and families.
We are currently recruiting for a Database and Integration Engineer (B8a) for Birmingham Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

The EPR will be a big change for all our patient-facing teams, so we are looking for people with the energy, passion and resilience to manage the complexities and high risks involved to help us deliver this critical programme of work.
Main duties of the job
This post is a BWC wide post with operational responsibility across the whole organisation for all databases including Epic support activities. The department’s Database and Integration Engineer is tasked with the support and maintenance of all 900 or so databases hosted / managed by the ICT department. The department utilises mainly Microsoft Structure Query Language (SQL) technology as such the post holder should possess excellent knowledge of this technology and act as the departments Subject Matter Expert (SME) on SQL database technology. Most of the Trust electronic data are stored in databases.
The post holder will set the Trust’s database technology strategy and vision with the HOD and will make decisions on the operations of all Trust SQL Database Management Systems (DBMS). The post holder, will when required, lead junior or contract staff.
This post has responsibilities for continually improving database performance and maintaining their data quality and integrity, namely accuracy, completeness, consistency and validity. As the department regularly updates the Trust systems, the post holder is expected to regularly plan and manage several database projects, often simultaneously, throughout the year and which may exceed 50 in a year. The post holder will also design and implement new database systems.
