Job Summary
The role of the Assistant Psychologist at the Chapman Barker Unit will be to work under the supervision of the qualified clinical psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist, within a busy inpatient detoxification unit. The post holder will have a role in the assessment, formulation and delivery of psychosocial interventions to patients, including those who are experiencing severe distress. They will administer and score neuro psychological assessment measures, and contribute to report writing They will also contribute to the provision of a psychologically informed service for those who have experienced trauma and adversity.. This can include supporting delivery of training, supervision and consultancy to the service and liaison with partner agencies. The postholder will work as part of a wider therapy and multidisciplinary team, however at times will be required to work independently according to a plan agreed with a qualified psychologists and within the overall framework of the department and multi-disciplinary team’s policies and procedures
The post holder will be expected to work in the inpatient setting at Prestwich.
Main duties of the job
- To assist with psychological assessments of people referred to the service, including the administration of neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales and semi structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in clients care, all under supervision.
To prepare reports on these findings under supervision and present information to relevant staff.
To deliver structured psychosocial interventions to service users in both individual and group settings, with appropriate supervision.
To attend and contribute to appropriate multidisciplinary meetings, ward meetings and to liaise with other staff within the inpatient setting of the unit, representing the views of the psychology service
