We are delighted to offer this fixed-term band 6 Speech and Language Therapist post, currently funded until March 2028.

We are looking for a therapist with experience working with children under 4, has excellent communication skills and enjoys working collaboratively with others. You will join our already well established Flying Start team in RCT.

You will demonstrate the Health Board values of listening, learning and improving, treating everyone with respect and always working together as one team.

 

Main duties of the job

You will support families and the Early Years workforce to develop young children’s communication. This may involve advice and signposting for individual children, supervision, training and support to staff. You will liaise with other professionals in Health.

We are a friendly and compassionate service with a strong commitment to supporting staff well-being, supervision and continued professional development.

You will join a small, passionate and committed multi agency team that consists of speech and language teams, an Educational Psychologist, an Occupational Therapist and Flying Start Childcare Advisory Officers. The team young children and their parents via the Community Wellbeing and Resilience Service. We provide training and advice to Flying Start settings and wider professionals in health and across Resilience families at universal and targeted levels, whilst maintaining links to the core SLT service. The focus is on prevention and early identification of speech, language and communication needs, whilst promoting responsiveness in caregivers and practitioners through evidence based practice.

The children’s SLT service has a range of clinical specialists available for second opinions and staff are supported by a line management structure, Paediatric Team Leads and an Admin Team.

Qualification and Training

Essential

  • Speech and Language Therapy Degree
  • HCPC Registration

Desirable

  • Relevant training courses.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working with children under 4 years.
  • Experience of multidisciplinary and multiagency teams
  • Experience of providing training.

Desirable

  • Experience of leading a project.
  • Experience of reporting data.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Detailed knowledge of communication development under 4, disorders and interventions.
  • Knowledge of Flying Start, SLCN guidance and reporting.

Skills

Essential

  • Able to analyse speech/ language assessment information and make appropriate clinical decisions.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of paediatric speech and lang assessment tools
  • Knowledge of a range of paediatric speech and language intervention approaches.

Desirable

  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at a Level 3 or above
