I’m Mat, the Service Manager for our Paediatric Speech and Language Service, and I’m really excited to tell you about an opportunity that has arisen for a Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy assistant to join the team.

Within this role, you will be working closely with our qualified Speech and Language Therapists across the patch in South Cheshire. You will help to support the team in a variety of ways including delivering treatment sessions – at times independently, creating resources for the team, helping with caseload management, and liaising directly with children, parents and other members of the Multidisciplinary team, in a variety of different settings.

You will receive significant support from our existing therapy assistants, speech therapists and also the team leaders. We are also extremely keen within CCICP to promote personal and professional development.

As this role is for a Band 4, we would expect candidates to have previous experience of working with a SALT Team, preferably within educational settings.

Main duties of the job

– Work directly with SALT colleagues to implement SALT assessments and care plans across different settings both as a team, but also at times independently and autonomously.

– Work alongside the SALT & education teams to help with caseload management and identify areas of priority

– Actively evaluate the effectiveness of assessment and intervention, and assist in new goal setting.

– Creation of SALT resources to be used in the different environments

– Actively input into the creation of the SALT timetable for service delivery into the school

– Assist with bespoke training for education staff, parents and carers as appropriate for the child/young person.

– Assist in whole school training in areas relevant to Speech and Language Therapy

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working as an assistant e.g. Healthcare / Teaching assistant
  • Experience of working with children
  • Experience of working within community settings
  • Experience of working with Speech and Language Therapy Teams

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a school setting

Skills

Essential

  • Evidence of good IT skills
  • Evidence of being able to assist with admin skills e.g. making resources
  • Good communication skills highlighted
  • UK Driving licence and a car driver
  • Specific skills related to working with children
  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Evidence of completion of SALT Care plans / assessments in the past
