Job Summary

We are seeking two experienced Biomedical Scientists to join the microbiology team based at Singleton Hospital. Candidates will need to be enthusiastic, well-motivated and innovative, with good organisational and practical abilities supported by scientific knowledge. Have well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to lead and support individual and team working.

We are advertising two posts – a Senior Biomedical Scientist with Quality responsibilities and a Senior Biomedical Scientist with Training responsibilities.

 

Main duties of the job

Candidates should possess well developed interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to support individual and team working. Being flexible, self-motivated and with good practical skills will be fundamental to your role. You will use your knowledge and skills as a Biomedical Scientist to contribute to a robust and fully operational system within the department. You will assist in building a strong team and support the Senior Biomedical Scientists to enable continual improvements in the department and throughout the Microbiology Network. An understanding of good laboratory practice and ISO15189 quality management is desirable. The post holder will support the provision of a 24/7 service in accordance with a published rota.

The post holders will be a Quality or Training Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Bacteriology department working together with the network Quality or Training team respectively.Our team offers a varied, challenging and rewarding work environment, with the opportunity to be at the forefront of Microbiology in Wales.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MSc Biomedical Sciences and, or Relevant Science specialism or IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma.
  • IBMS Specialist Diploma Medical Microbiology, Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS) or equivalent experience.
  • Evidence of HCPC registration

Desirable

  • IBMS Certificate of Expert Practice in Quality or Training
  • Expert knowledge in Quality or Training

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience in an UKAS accredited Microbiology Laboratory.
  • Experience of a wide range of practical Bacteriology techniques.
  • Supervisory experience

Desirable

  • Involvement in training of staff.
  • Experience of working to Quality standards
  • Understands the role of Public Health Wales.

Essential

  • Understands, can perform and teach others all aspects of routine diagnostic Bacteriology tests.
  • Aptitude for managing people.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff at all levels both orally and in writing.
