Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Digital team at South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust for an experienced ICT Infrastructure Technician to support the implementation of a new Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. We are seeking a technically skilled, motivated and adaptable individual with strong infrastructure experience and excellent problem-solving, communication and organisational skills.
This role will focus on supporting the deployment of critical infrastructure across multiple sites, working closely with a selected supplier and internal teams. The post holder will play a key role in the Trust’s digital transformation journey, contributing to the successful delivery of the Fit for the Future Programme, which aims to modernise and future-proof our digital capabilities while ensuring the CAD system is resilient, secure, and aligned with operational and clinical priorities.
Main duties of the job
The ICT Infrastructure Technician will be responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining infrastructure components, including servers, switches, and virtual environments, across two data centres and three operational contact centres.
They will ensure the performance, security, scalability and resilience of the CAD infrastructure, while also supporting disaster recovery planning, data protection measures and system testing.
The post holder will act as a 3rd line technical expert throughout the project, providing hands-on support for incident resolution, infrastructure monitoring and ensuring compliance with NHS Digital standards.
They will maintain accurate technical documentation, support asset management processes and work closely with the CAD Infrastructure & Integration Architect and wider IT teams to implement solutions with minimal disruption to business-as-usual services.

Qualifications and Training
Essential
- Understanding of RAID configurations and backup environments.
- Understanding of a range of work procedures and practices, which require expertise within Digital/ICT, underpinned by theoretical knowledge or relevant practical experience.
- Knowledge of a range of Digital/ICT areas acquired through qualification to degree or equivalent level, or through equivalent relevant experience.
- Knowledge of networks and hosting environments learned through formal training or informal experience.
Desirable
- ITIL Foundation (highly desirable)
- Professional IT certifications (e.g. Microsoft certifications)
- Vendor certifications (e.g., CompTIA Network+)
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Substantial experience in an ICT Infrastructure support or service delivery role, preferably within a large organisation or healthcare environment that requires high availability and resilient platforms.
- Proven experience in building and configuring physical and virtual servers.
- In-depth knowledge of Windows Server operating systems, VMware ESXi Administration and management in a large corporate environment.

Physical Requirements
Essential
- Regular use of VDU equipment.
- Standard NHS working hours, with occasional out-of-hours work required for system upgrades or emergency support.
- Frequent sitting or standing in restricted positions will be required when working within the data centre and IT switch rooms.
- There is an ongoing requirement to exert moderate physical, lifting and moving if IT equipment on a daily basis.
- Occasional travel to Trust sites may be necessary to install or maintain systems, attend meetings/training.
