Job Summary

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced and motivated Data Warehouse Manager to lead the delivery, support and proactive maintenance of the Trust’s Data Warehouse. The role underpins the effective use of data, information, knowledge and technology to support and improve healthcare delivery.

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and enhancing the Trust’s Data Warehouse across both on premise and Microsoft Azure environments. The post holder will ensure solutions remain secure, reliable and innovative, while keeping abreast of emerging technologies and best practice to shape the future of the Trust’s Business Intelligence capability

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the job include:

  • Lead on the development and maintenance of the Trust’s Data Warehouse, managing data feeds, databases, platform environment, system security, planning and technical documentation.
  • Provide expertise in T-SQL, SQL Server and Microsoft Azure to support reporting and analytical needs across the Trust.
  • Keep up to date with evolving data warehouse, cloud and database technologies, identifying opportunities to enhance the Trust’s infrastructure and approach.
  • Develop, support and monitor data extraction, transfer, staging and load processes, ensuring high-quality validated data.
  • Configure, test and support authentication and security group permissions in line with Trust security policies.
  • Develop documentation including configuration records, data flow mappings, SQL code and standard operating procedures.
  • Manage and lead a small team, allocating tasks, appraising performance and supporting staff development.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive data extract, transfer/translate and load experience for a large data warehouse
  • Experience of interpreting system log files;system performance monitoring and tuning
  • Extensive knowledge of messaging technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Azure and its data management offering
  • Extensive knowledge of writing SQL and stored procedures and query tuning on high transaction systems.
  • Knowledge of database mirroring using processes such as change data capture
  • Knowledge of Business Intelligence systems and reporting tools such as Power BI

Desirable

  • Knowledge of NHS and acute datasets
  • Knowledge of patient and data flows in an hospital setting
  • Knowledge of programming languages

Skills

Essential

  • In-depth knowledge of SQL development/coding
  • Working knowledge of NHS Information Governance requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to produce good technical documentation including data flow maps
  • Able to liaise with external system suppliers
  • Experience of assisting in hardware and operating system deployment for BI projects

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an acute NHS trust
  • Cloud technology management including platform as a service and infrastructure as a service models.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Microsoft Certification (in SQL server/ Azure)
  • Educated to masters level in an Informatics related subject or equivalent experience
