Job Summary
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and confident individual to join us as a Dietetic Assistant Practitioner.The post holder will provide support to the dietitians in neurosciences (four days per week) and contribute one day per week to the ketogenic service, also based at NHNN. The role involves:
- Direct patient contact
- Liaising with dietitians and the wider multidisciplinary teams at NHNN
- Supporting care pathways with other hospitals and in the community
- Facilitating both inpatient treatment and safe discharge
- Managing stock of specialist nutrition products
Main duties of the job
We are seeking someone who can work well within a team, manage their time effectively, and demonstrate excellent communication skills. A good baseline knowledge of nutrition is essential. Experience or understanding of Home Enteral Feeding (HEF) would be an advantage, though full training and supervision will be provided.As a forward-thinking department, we are committed to clinical governance and professional development. Essential
- Educated to GCSE (e.g., Maths, English, Science, Food & Nutrition, or technology) or equivalent.
- Certificate/course in communication/counselling skills
- Knowledge of Nutrition and healthy eating
Experience
Essential
- Extensive experience of working in the NHS or customer focused environment
- Experience of giving presentations to groups of 10 or more people
- Experience of working with people from a diverse multicultural community
Desirable
- Experience of working without direct supervision with the ability to make decisions about the management of the client
- Experience of participating in audit
Skills & Abilities
Essential
- Ability to communicate with a variety of different staff members and patients both verbally and in writing
- Ability to work in an organised manner

- Ability to prioritise and meet set deadlines
- Intermediate to advanced level of Microsoft Word with accurate typing skills
- Basic knowledge of MS Office
- Working knowledge of a databases
- To have an appreciation of the issues relating to communicating with patients i.e., with cancer or neurological conditions or terminally ill
- Ability to motivate patients
- Experience of training colleagues or patients
- Good understanding of the role of multi-disciplinary teams in healthcare and the dietitian’s role in the team
