Due to this being an apprenticeship, you can only apply if you meet the criteria below:

  • Have the equivalent of 9 to 4 or A* to C pass at GCSE Level in English Lan, Math, Science plus 1 other subject pass.
  • Overseas qualifications – require ENIC Statement of Comparability, number required on application form.
  • You cannot be considered with Access to HE qualifications or Degrees if they contain pharmacology content.

Education provider reviews qualifications, submission of qualification certificates/ENIC statement of comparability are required before interview.

As a Pharmacy Technicians apprentice, you’ll participate in a fixed term training programme. Involving work-based training and formal study (underpinning knowledge). You’ll need to be patient focused, have good interpersonal and communication skills, a quick learner, ability to adapt, keen to get involved and be committed to the training programme.

Main duties of the job

This is a two year fixed term training contract enabling the post holder undertake a structured and comprehensive training and education programme whilst working towards gaining the Pharmacy Technician (Integrated) Level 3 Apprenticeship which meets the GPhCs regulation for registration to practice as a Pharmacy Technician.

You will participate in theoretical day-release training provided by a commissioned education provider and practical on the job training where you will undertake technical duties in dispensing and supply of medicines. There is limited opportunity to undertake the reconstitution of cytotoxic and other aseptically prepared items.

The post holder is required to maintaining sufficient progress and meet the training and assessment requirements of the course. Successful appraisal and completion of the first year is a requirement for entry into the second year. Completion of a portfolio of evidence within the allocated time is essential.

Education / Qualifications

Essential

  • 4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above including Maths, English Language, 1 Science (core) and 1 other subject
  • Non UK qualifications to be supported by a ENIC statement of comparability equivalent to the 4 GSCEs in Maths, English Language, Science and 1 other subject

Desirable

  • A levels
  • Undergraduate qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in a team.
  • Experience of prioritising and organising study deadlines in order to meet requirements and a commitment to learning

Desirable

  • Work experience in hospital pharmacy and/or community pharmacy in the UK
  • Previous experience with pharmacy computer systems (CMM)
  • Previous experience of academic portfolio construction

Skills/knowledge/ abilities

Essential

  • Knowledge of the role of a pharmacy technician
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workload effectively to meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to work accurately and sustain concentration under pressure
