Job Summary

The purpose of this post is to plan and provide programmes of therapeutic activities to people with learning disabilities referred to the team/service, within the framework laid down by an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist or Speech & Language Therapist. The post holder will have specific responsibility for the implementation and evaluation of a range of therapeutic interventions on an individual and group basis.

 

Main duties of the job

?To be able to plan, develop and implement individual and group activities to meet service user’s needs under the minimal direction of a qualified Occupational Therapist, Speech and Language Therapist or Physiotherapist.

To undertake a specific assessment when directed by an OT, SaLT or PT.

Contribute to generic team tasks when directed to do so by senior member of the team

To report back to OT, SaLT, PT and multi-disciplinary team on individuals progress /response to treatment via documentation and liaise with them, as appropriate

To maintain client records and to collect activity data in accordance with Trust policies

To co-ordinate stock control and ordering of materials used by OT, SaLT and PT

To be responsible for maintaining and updating induction and community resource files

To participate in the induction, training and education of students and other staff in the setting

To participate in essential training and any training as directed by OT, SaLT and PT to update knowledge on areas pertinent to supporting adults with learning disabilities

To assist senior staff in development of the Service including partaking in audit.

To liaise with external/internal contacts as appropriate to enhance quality of services

Qualifications

Essential

  • Health care or relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent skills acquired through experience
  • Evidence of commitment to lifelong learning

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Significant work experience in health/social care/teaching setting
  • Experience of working with people with Learning Disabilities/mental health difficulties
