Job Summary

We are looking to recruit a band 6 midwife who is motivated with a real passion for perinatal mental health and focused on ensuring the delivery of high-quality midwifery care. We aim to provide patient centred, clinically driven and flexible care, providing support to our patients. The successful candidate will be case loading a cohort of women with moderate mental health needs, to empower and allow them to have a journey that will be compassionate and improve their and their family’s pregnancy experience.

This exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a midwife within our well-established specialist team, supporting patients, colleagues, and students. You will be autonomous and work within a supportive multi-disciplinary team, reporting to the senior specialist mental health midwife. You will regularly meet and liaise with community mental health teams, local IAPT and health visitor for mental health and other professional agencies.

The role is a full-time position and there are flexible working opportunities. It is mainly based in the community setting covering the South of the county, including Wycombe, Amersham, and the Chalfont’s. However, you will also provide support to your patients in the hospital setting when required.

As a member of our team the midwife is responsible for planning and implementing care for patients throughout the antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal period within their role as an autonomous practitioner.

 

Main duties of the job

* Work within the Emerald specialist team who specialise with mental health, safeguarding, and teenage pregnancy. You will work closely with the senior mental well-being midwife.

* Provides a full range of midwifery care, health education and social care advice to women in all care settings.

* Takes on the role of caseloading targeted mothers who have mental health needs.

* Work within a continuity of care model for women with perinatal mental health needs/vulnerable families.

* Provides clinical and professional expertise to the multi-disciplinary, multi-agency team

* Participates in the development of midwifery services to meet the needs of mothers with mild , moderate and severe mental health problems

* Assess the full range of care needs and assist in developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care in the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period for women and their babies.

Essential

  • Holds a UK driver’s license
  • Ability to support in clinical escalation and unit on calls

Education and Training

Essential

  • Registered Midwife
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and its application
  • Accredited Mentorship course

Desirable

  • Diploma / Degree level
  • ALSO/ Prompt/NLS course

Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of Midwifery issues in the wider context of the NHS
  • Excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of Midwifery
  • Experience of managing a community midwifery caseload or willingness to undertake case loading relevant to role.
  • Knowledge of responsibilities under the Health and Safety Act 1974
  • Knowledge of NMC Code
  • Knowledge of mental health and vulnerable adult issues
  • Knowledge of working with vulnerable families
  • Clinical Skills ie perineal suturing, IV Cannulation
  • Understanding of team motivation
  • Ability to act as a mentor for Midwives, students and MCAs.
  • Able to identify problems and recommend solutions
  • IT literate on Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills with all members of the team, patients and relatives
  • Good verbal and written English which can be evidenced at interview or IELTs level 7 (in all elements) or above
  • Good record keeping skills
  • Able to organise complex packages of patient care
  • Effectively prioritises and co-ordinates own work
  • Satisfactory enhanced Criminal Records Bureau Disclosure with check against vulnerable groups barred lists
