Job Summary

This is a trainee role within one of the well-established NHS Talking Therapies for Anxiety and Depression (TT) in the Black Country which comprises of Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton. The post-holder will be embedded within the TT service providing high volume low intensity interventions whilst undertaking a programme of training for this role.

The training post will equip the post-holder to provide a range of low intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) based self-management interventions to clients at Step 2, with mild to moderate anxiety and depression across a range of media.

The PG.Cert is delivered of Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust in conjunction with the University of Birmingham. Training places will be offered within one of the four Black Country sites comprising of Walsall, Wolverhampton, Sandwell and Dudley

This will be delivered on a 1 to 1 or group basis via telephone, video or face to face. The role is locality based where travel will be required between sites where necessary, whilst also delivering telephone or virtual appointments across the Black Country footprint. The working week split will be subject to service need and course requirements.

 

Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive assessments and treatments for clients presenting with common mental health problems using evidence-based psychological principles and working within the context of primary care services.

Assessing clients’ suitability for NHS Talking Therapies treatment modalities. To make decisions on suitability of new referrals into the service, and refer/signpost clients on to other relevant services or back to the referral agent as necessary.

Deliver low intensity psychological treatments at step 2 of the stepped care model supporting patients with self-management of common mental health difficulties primarily through guided self-help or online CBT resources.

To conduct risk assessments with clients and to take appropriate action when necessary.

Work closely with supervisors ensuring appropriate stepping up and stepping down arrangements for clients treatments in line with the stepped care approach.

To adhere to agreed clinical activity relating to the number of client contacts and clinical sessions in order to ensure treatment delivery remains accessible while minimising treatment waiting times.

To ensure and maintain clinical records and reports in accordance with trusts policies, procedures and professional standards

To attend a university course and attend regular supervision sessions as required by the training programme.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A degree or evidence of previous successful study at Regulated Qualifications Framework Level 6 (e.g. PGCert, PGDip, PGCE) – For postgraduate programme’

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to manage high volume workloads.
  • 12 months mental health experience
  • Organisational and time management skills

Desirable

  • Knowledge and skills in conducting assessments with clients
  • Knowledge and skills in referring or signposting clients to other services
  • Ability to use clinical supervision and personal development positively and effectively
