Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, proactive person to join the established Headache Specialist Service at ESHT. This is a full time, permanent band 4 post.

Dependent on your experience and with the support and supervision of the Headache Specialist Team, you will over time, provide information and support to people with headache disorders to help them manage their condition. In addition to working collaboratively with the team to manage the administration of the Headache service.

Whilst previous clinical experience is desirable, training, support and development will be provided.

Main duties, tasks & skills required

The Headache support worker will work closely with the Headache specialist team to ensure individual needs of people with Headache across ESHT are met in line with NICE guidelines. This will include management of the headache service database and associated administrative duties, ensuring patients have timely follow up.

The post holder will deliver patient-centred, self-management support and education as necessary to noncomplex migraine patients, including lifestyle modification, trigger reduction and management of acute attacks.

The post holder will have excellent organisational skills and be able to communicate effectively with a number of different disciplines.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics (Grades A-C) or equivalent
  • Educated to NVQ level 3 in relevant subject or equivalent level of knowledge and experience
  • Evidence of continued professional development to diploma level or equivalent level of knowledge and experience

Desirable

  • Training to foundation degree in health and social care equivalent or evidence of continued role development
  • Coaching or teaching qualification
  • Willingness to undertake learning and development courses
  • ECDL or equivalent / alternative IT qualification

Experience

Essential

  • Previous relevant experience of working in health and social care environment
  • Experience of multi-professional Working and working as part of a team
  • Experience in the use of data Management

Desirable

  • Understanding of Headache as a condition, making links within charities such as Migraine trust and OUCH across the UK.
  • Experience in coordinating a patient workload
  • Awareness of Headache in Adults: management Clinical guideline [CG 150]
  • Knowledge of relevant Headache treatments, interventions and terminology

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

  • Ability to communicate both verbally and non verbally on a daily basis with people at all levels in a sensitive manner
  • Understanding of person-centred Care
  • Ability to motivate self and others
  • Good IT skills including knowledge of Mircrosoft Office – Word, Excel and Outlook
