We a training positions available, based at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals offering exceptional training opportunities.
We are delighted to join forces with the National School of Healthcare Science and Health Education England to support the Echocardiography Training Programme (ETP). This is a full-time, 18-month training post designed to support the successful candidate towards level 2 British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) accreditation. On completion of the programme, you will be awarded a post graduate certificate in Clinical Echocardiography.
Main duties of the job
These positions would ideally suit a PTP (Practitioner Training Programme) graduate with a good grounding in cardiac physiology and an interest in developing their skills within echocardiography. Knowledge
Essential
- 1st or 2:1 BSc in Cardiac Physiology (PTP) or a relevant scientific subject or equivalent experience and appropriate underpinning knowledge and skills in cardiology.
- ILS
- Voluntary registration with the Academy for Healthcare Science
Desirable
- MSCST
- SCST diploma or certificate
- PTP registration with Academy for Healthcare Science
Experience
Essential
- Has an understanding of the role of an Echocardiographer in healthcare and disease and its application to a healthcare setting
- Knowledge acquired through study and experience to formulate appropriate advice and judgements, including clinical judgements involving facts or situations that impact on patients
- Has an understanding of quality control and audit in a science or work based context
- Ability to analyse and assess scientific, technical and medical literature
Desirable
- Practical experience of working within an echo department under supervision
- Experience of presenting to small groups
Skills
Essential
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both writing and speaking in English language
- Ability to work autonomously in the planning and execution of their own work and under the guidance of their Departmental Supervisors
- Good personal organisational skills
- Effective team worker, willing to adopt a role working in collaboration with others
- Good understanding of ethics and professional practice, the NHS Constitution and the importance of patient-centred care
Desirable
- Experience of organising, planning or monitoring the workload of others
- Understanding of hazards posed by blood products, needlestick injuries, infectious patients and cross contamination.
