Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the West Neighbourhood at Northumbria Primary Care for a Band 4 Annex 20 Pharmacy Technician position, offering an excellent development opportunity for candidates who have not yet completed the CPPE training to build their skills and progress within the role.

The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive primary care medicines management system acting on current best practice. The Pharmacy Technician will be required to undertake activities predominantly within practice, but will need to be flexible to work to the wider demands of the network.

This role forms part of a career progression pathway and could lead to the completion of a CPPE qualification and into a Senior Pharmacy Technician post (training and budget dependant).

This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Annex 20 – Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

Main duties of the job

The role will contribute to the efficient and effective delivery of medicines to patients e.g. medicines supply, actioning of discharge summary medication changes, liaising with care homes regarding prescription queries and supporting the organisation move towards online prescription services. An understanding of primary care operations and use of SystmOne would be an advantage but is not essential.

Qualifications / Professional Registration

Essential

  • BTEC in pharmaceutical science or NVQ Level 3 supported by appropriate underpinning knowledge e.g. national certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent qualification.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council

Desirable

  • An appropriate accredited technician checking qualification.
  • To be working towards CPPE PCPEP qualification.

Experience and knowledge

Essential

  • Previous relevant experience working in either a hospital, community or primary care pharmacy setting.
  • Evidence of personal insight and sound judgment.

Desirable

  • Previous medicines management experience
  • Audit experience
  • Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools
  • Knowledge of or experience in Quality improvement tools, techniques and methods

Other requirements

Essential

  • It is an essential requirement of the role that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner and able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. However, the Trust would consider making reasonable adjustments to the role, if necessary, to enable a disabled person to undertake the role
