Job Summary
We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated Radiographers who enjoy the challenges a Major Trauma Centre (MTC) will offer within a friendly multidisciplinary team in a central London location.
St Mary’s Hospital is one of four Major Trauma Centre’s (MTC’s) in the London region with a dedicated Acute Imaging Centre containing a recently upgraded CT scanner and a separate Paediatric A&E.
The post will give you the opportunity to build on your existing clinical skills in all areas of the General Imaging Department including A&E across a range of specialties and developing new skills in CT and Angio. Education and training are key elements of the department.
The Imaging Department at St Mary’s Hospital performs a comprehensive range of procedures over all modalities. Being flexible and innovative in your ways of working will be fundamental to your role and good communication skills are essential. We also teach radiography students from a number of London Universities.

Main duties of the job
- To maintain a high standard of patient care and comfort and be patient focused at all times.
- To work in an efficient and effective manner at all times.
- To appear on duty promptly and appropriately dressed and behave in a professional manner at all times.
- To plan, prioritise and organise own workload within certain clinical areas of the department, e.g. Fluoroscopy, with support from senior colleagues as required.
- To vet request forms for validity and appropriateness.
- To determine whether repeat X-rays or extra projections are required.
- To undertake IV injections in line with departmental policy.
- To report any untoward incidents and equipment failure to the area superintendent radiographer.
- To work unsupervised as and when required.
- To work using own initiative but be aware own limitations and seek guidance when necessary.
- To work flexibly based on requirements of service.
- To carry out duties that may be considered necessary and consistent with the responsibilities of the post.
- Commitment to active participation for the out of hours service and perform rostered duties as part of contractual hours
- To undertake all mandatory training in line with Trust and Department policies including Manual Handling, Infection Control and Trust Core skills.
- To undertake continuous professional development in line with College of Radiographers and Health Professions Council guidelines.
