Job Summary
We are looking for a motivated and compassionate individual to join our Paediatric Diabetes Team, supporting the care of approximately 230 children and young people living with Type 1 Diabetes.
Working closely with our experienced Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality, child-centred care. Under supervision, you will support a varied caseload and, once trained and assessed as competent, take on routine and extended responsibilities that contribute to the smooth and efficient running of our Paediatric Diabetes clinics.

What You’ll Be Doing
Supporting the management of a caseload of children and young people with Type 1 Diabetes. Carrying out routine and extended clinical duties, in line with your training and competency. Working under the guidance of the nurse in charge and the Paediatric Diabetes Specialist Nurses.Helping ensure clinics run smoothly and efficiently, providing a positive experience for patients and families

Main duties of the job
- To take a lead role in the efficient and smooth running of Paediatric Diabetes Clinics at RUH, Frome Medical Centre and Chippenham Community Hospital. Car and full driving licence is required.
- Preparing for clinics; ensuring all equipment is in good working order and ready for use; taking any relevant educational material; to set up ahead of time to ensure clinic starts on time
- To perform HbA1c blood test for each child attending clinic using Point of Care testing equipment.
- To maintain stock of equipment and materials and to ensure quality control and calibration of equipment.
- Demonstrates good housekeeping techniques and correct disposal of sharps, reporting hazards, takes positive action to reduce any risks within own capability. Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of department areas, clinical equipment and stock levels. Reporting faults, breakages or missing items.
- Undertake general clerical duties that may be associated with the smooth running of the department. Upkeep of notice and information boards.
