Emergency Nurse Practitioner / Extended Scope Practitioner (ENP/ESP) – Southend

We are seeking highly motivated and experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioners / Extended Scope Practitioners (ENP/ESP) to join our dynamic Emergency and Urgent Care team at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Southend.

You will use your advanced clinical skills to assess, diagnose, treat, and safely discharge patients, contributing to effective patient flow and service delivery.

Main duties of the job

Work as a clinically autonomous practitioner delivering high-quality, evidence-based, person-centred care to patients presenting with urgent and emergency conditions.

Independently assess, diagnose, treat and discharge patients within scope of practice, ensuring safe and effective clinical decision-making.

Undertake initial patient assessments in the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), managing presentations such as wounds, sprains, fractures, minor head injuries and soft tissue injuries.

Manage an autonomous caseload, formulating working diagnoses for undifferentiated conditions and determining appropriate clinical pathways.

Order, interpret and act upon diagnostic investigations (including X-rays), ensuring timely and safe patient outcomes.

Prescribe and administer medications in line with Patient Group Directions (PGDs), NICE guidance and Trust policy, including Independent Prescribing where qualified.

Maintain accurate, contemporaneous and legally compliant clinical documentation at all times.

Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team, contributing to clinical expertise, audit, quality improvement and service development, and support the Emergency Department during escalation or major incidents as required.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse OR Relevant HCPC Registration
  • Advanced management of Minor injury/illness course

Desirable

  • Independent non-medical prescribing
  • Emergency Care Course
  • Acute Care Course

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Extensive post-registration experience working within an Emergency Department
  • Experience in ensuring standards are maintained
  • Awareness of Clinical Governance issues

Desirable

  • ENP Experience
  • Understanding of quality assurance process (i.e complaints/audits)
  • Experience of management of datix incident investigation
