Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated Band 6 children’s nurse to join our team on our 24 bedded Medical and Respiratory children’s ward, 7E, on a 12-month fixed term basis to cover maternity leave.

Our hospital manages a large case load of children, many having complex conditions and needs. Our specialty services include, but are not limited to, complex respiratory conditions (including non-invasive ventilation and tracheostomy care, cystic fibrosis, empyema), diabetes, haematology, endocrine, neurology and general paediatrics.

The post holder will ensure family centred care is maintained, fostering positive relationships with children and their families. You will also work closely with full MDTs including consultants, physiotherapists, dieticians, general managers, pharmacists and specialist nurses including community teams

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team ensuring the delivery of the highest standard of individualised family centred care to children and their families in conjunction with the interdisciplinary team.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in children’s nursing.
  • Current NMC registration (Child)
  • Mentorship qualification.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.

Desirable

  • Leadership course.
  • Mentorship qualification.

Experience

Essential

  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Experience working in an acute paediatric ward setting.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a general paediatric and respiratory setting.
  • Line management experience.

Knowledge

Essential

  • Knowledge of resource management
  • Knowledge in education process of patients, families, students and other qualified/non qualified staff
  • Awareness of working with children/families within a multi-cultural environment
  • Knowledge of and experience of safeguarding children.
  • Knowledge of trust values and ability to act in a way which upholds these.

Skills

Essential

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Use of IT systems.
  • Planning and prioritisation.
  • Ability to deal with challenging situations.
  • Promoting wellbeing.

Desirable

  • Ability to complete clinical audits.
