Job summary

The States of Guernsey are looking for a Senior Staff Nurse to join Crevichon Ward within Mental Health Services.Crevichon Ward is a 17 bedded Adult Acute Mixed Inpatient Unit. It is the only Adult Acute Inpatient Unit on Island and provides evidence Based Care interventions for service users. These interventions include Cognitive Behavioural Therapeutic and Motivational Interviewing approaches. Service users are admitted to the ward on an Informal basis or under Guernsey Mental Health Law (GMHL).The Crevichon Team are comprised of Registered Mental Health Nurses, Health Care Assistants, a Consultant Psychiatrist, an Associate Psychiatrist, an Occupational Therapist, a Wellness and Activities Coordinator and Administration Support staff. They also support service users who are under the care of CAMHS, the Community Drug and Alcohol Team.Crevichon Ward provide a service and pathway which is conducive towards the service users care and recovery journey while including their relatives and loved ones.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:- Provide the highest standards of individualised care, participating in decision making and implementing care innovations with the senior ward team.- Act as a role model and assessor for students.- Coordinate and lead the team whilst on shift.- Implement and monitor quality assurance initiatives including development of action plans and measuring outcomes.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Minimum Qualification:
  • Registered Nurse RMN.
  • To be a mentor to junior staff and act as an assessor or supervisor to student nurses.
  • Full Qualifications:
  • Substantial experience.
  • Recent experience of working in an acute inpatient mental health setting.
  • Key Criteria:
  • The ability to evidence how HSCs CARE Values are applied in practice.
  • Evidence of relevant CPD.
  • A high standard of communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deal with complex and challenging situations in a calm and diplomatic manner.
  • The ability to effectively prioritise own workload and that of others.
  • The ability to work autonomously and also as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Commitment to self-development and the development of others.
  • Adaptable and responsive to changing service needs.
  • Ability to deal with stress in self and others, recognising when support is required.
