Job summary

Applicants are invited for the post of Locum Consultant in Gastroenterology to join the existing Gastroenterology Team at the University Hospitals of Derby & Burton, on a fixed term contract for 12 months.

We are looking to develop our specialist GI services by appointing Consultants in Gastroenterology.

The successful applicant will support in the delivery of high quality, timely endoscopy care, out-patient clinics and inpatient care

Main duties of the job

The Gastroenterology team are a dedicated, motivated, forward thinking and friendly team.

We provide general and specialist services to our patients with gastrointestinal and liver disorders, both benign and malignant, including irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, enteral/parenteral nutrition, CoG’s (complex gastrointestinal disorders) and hepatology services.

We have excellent endoscopy facilities including a 3-room endoscopy suite at QHB and a 2-room endoscopy suite at SRP, which are all undergoing final JAG accreditation. We participate in the national bowel cancer screening programme across the Acute Hospitals

Management Experience

Desirable

  • Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements relevant to the specialty
  • Attended a management/leadership course

Qualifications

Essential

  • Possession MRCP
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice at date of Commencement
  • European Speciality Examination in Gastroenterology & Hepatology or equivalent
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) qualification

Desirable

  • Additional higher medical / scientific degree relevant to the specialty
  • GMC Specialist Registration OR within 6 months of receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at time of interview OR If applying for Full GMC Registration & Licence to Practice simultaneously with a CESR application, supporting documentary evidence must be provided at interview, to confirm an application has been submitted & is under consideration by the GMC.

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Experience of General Medicine
  • Evidence of independent clinical practice
  • Experienced in making clinical decisions & managing risk.

Desirable

  • Minimum 1 year NHS experience
  • Interest in an area of Hepatology complimentary to existing consultants

Teaching

Essential

  • Experience of & commitment to teaching undergraduates & postgraduate
  • Experience of supervising F1, F2, ST trainees.
  • Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills

Desirable

  • Specific teaching qualification
  • Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under-graduates
  • Experience of teaching endoscopy
  • Attended a recognised teaching training course
