Are you ready for an exciting opportunity to join Hywel Dda University Health Board’s Public Health Team?

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Public Health Directorate and contribute to a wide range of impactful projects across the domains of public health (Health Improvement /Health Protection/Healthcare Public Health). You will play a key role in tackling health inequalities and preventing ill-health across our communities by helping to deliver the ambitions set out in our Public Health strategic plans.

  • Proven experience in public health (health improvement/promotion &/or health protection).
  • Excellent partnership-building and influencing abilities.
  • A track record of initiating and developing successful programmes.
  • Confident working autonomously and as part of a wider team.
  • A passion for reducing health inequalities and driving innovation through continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the planning, development and delivery of programmes and initiatives to promote health and wellbeing in our communities.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with a range of professionals and organisations.
  • Monitor and evaluate public health programmes using data analysis and evidence-based approaches.
  • Support the prevention agenda by leading and contributing to key strategies and programmes that improve population health and wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities.
  • Work in a matrix structure to support the wider team’s functions and priorities.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in a related field
  • Knowledge of the health policy context for NHS and local partners
  • Knowledge of one or more public health/health promotion programme areas
  • Knowledge of health determinants

Desirable

  • Masters in public health/health promotion
  • Registered, or working towards registration, with the UK Public Health Register (Practitioner Registration)
  • Evidence of continuing professional/personal development
  • Practical knowledge of public health practice, health promotion models and community development

Experience

Essential

  • Experience to post-graduate level of public health work and undertaking health promotion activity with communities, groups or in key settings
  • Experience of working with a range of partner organisations relevant to health improvement
  • Experience in establishing new initiatives or programmes

Desirable

  • Experience of public health or health promotion
  • Experience of working with communities

Other

Essential

  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet the needs of the service

Desirable

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
