Job summary

This post is for a Consultant Medical Oncologist with an interest in Lower & Upper GI based in Brighton but with cross site working in Eastbourne (ESHT), as part of UHSussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The workload predominantly relates to outpatient clinical activity, with regular commitments to caring for general oncology inpatients and review of patients in the same day emergency care unit as well as taking part in an out of hours oncology on call rota.

In addition, the post will require clinical leadership, MDT attendance and active participation, medical student and registrar teaching, and there will be clinical research opportunities.

Main duties of the job

The clinical duties of the post include the following:

Outpatient Clinics

MDM attendance

SACT prescribing

Clinical trials leadership and delivery

Team leadership and clinical management

Clinical admin generated from patients seen and liaison with other AHPs, and primary care

Clinical Governance meetings

Ward reviews when appropriate

Person Specification

Experience/ Qualifications

Essential

  • oBasic medical degree
  • oMB BS, FRCR or appropriate specialist qualification
  • oFull GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • oCCT in oncology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • oEntry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC

  • oHigher Degree

Clinical Skills and Experience

  • oEvidence of training in broad spectrum of oncology tumour sites
  • oInterest and training suitable for a LGI cancer oncology post
