Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) Therapist to join our established specialist DBT Service. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based interventions to individuals experiencing significant emotional dysregulation, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and complex mental health difficulties.

The post holder will provide individual therapy, facilitate DBT skills training groups, participate in consultation team meetings, undertake risk assessment and management, and contribute to the ongoing development of the service. This is an excellent opportunity for a clinician with an interest in personality disorder and complex emotional needs to further develop specialist DBT skills within a supportive and experienced team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will deliver comprehensive DBT-informed assessments and provide individual therapy in line with established DBT principles and protocols. They will co-facilitate DBT skills training groups and contribute to a range of therapeutic interventions, while actively participating in weekly DBT consultation team meetings to maintain treatment fidelity and support clinical decision-making. The role includes undertaking detailed risk assessments and developing effective risk management plans for individuals presenting with self-harm, suicidal behaviours, and complex emotional needs. The successful candidate will maintain accurate and timely clinical records, work collaboratively with service users, carers, and partner agencies to support recovery-focused care planning, and contribute to service evaluation, audit, and quality improvement initiatives. They will also offer specialist consultation and advice to colleagues and wider mental health services and engage in ongoing professional development, supervision, and mandatory training.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Registered Mental Health Qualification (Mental Health Nurse/Social Worker/Occupational Therapist) Registered Psychologist
  • Up to date Professional Registration (NMC/ Social Care Council Wales / HCPC)

Desirable

  • Evidence of CPD
  • Post Registration Study to master’s level in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • DBT Therapist qualification (intensively trained or foundation level)
  • CBT Certificate / Diploma

Experience

Essential

  • Significant post qualification clinical experience relevant to the post to Post Graduate Diploma Level
  • Experience of working with children/ young people or adults with serious mental health problems
  • Experience of working with children/adults with dysregulated / high risk behaviours
  • Understanding of Clinical Governance

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a DBT service
  • Experience of facilitating DBT skills training group intervention or other manualized CBT groups
  • Supervision of junior staff or students
  • Managing a small group of staff
  • Experience of training staff
  • Experience of working independently and setting own priorities

  • Welsh Speaker (Level 1)
