Job summary

This is a 10 PA Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatry post leading the Ealing Adolescent Team (NDT) in Ealing CAMHS.

The post holder will be operationally and professionally accountable to the CAMHS Clinical Director through the Borough Clinical Lead, and in turn accountable to the Trust`s Chief Medical Officer and the Executive Director of Local Services.

This post (10 PAs) provides the opportunity to work with four other Consultant Psychiatrists and the multi-disciplinary Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service based in Ealing CAMHS. The team sits within the Trust’s Child and Developmental Services service line which also includes CAMHS in Hounslow and Hammersmith & Fulham as well as the services that span multiple boroughs.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have overall Consultant responsibility for the Adolescent Team and, shared together with his/her Consultant colleagues on the Ealing site, for the provision of the comprehensive general child and adolescent mental health services in Ealing CAMHS in line with service and contractual requirements.

The consultant will be expected to share responsibility for the efficient and effective running of the service. The various roles and responsibilities of all staff and the Consultant group are agreed with the Clinical Director in line with the current service needs, service developments and clinical interests and managed within an annual formal job planning process. The post-holder will have the opportunity to develop special interests that meet the needs of the service e.g. tic disorders, safeguarding or others.

Within the Adolescent Team, the post-holder will assist with the delivery of a comprehensive range of assessments, therapeutic interventions, training and consultation with the multi-disciplinary team. He/she will share responsibility for allocated cases and other clinical leadership duties for the team. The post-holder will be expected to provide both urgent and non-urgent psychiatric outpatient assessment, treatment and psychological interventions to cases under his/her direct care.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification

Desirable

  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych
  • Additional clinical qualifications

Eligibility

Essential

  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice at the time of appointment
  • GMC Specialist Register for child and adolescent psychiatry or within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Desirable

  • Good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice

  • Excellent clinical skills in child and adolescent psychiatry
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Excellent knowledge in speciality
