We have an exciting opportunity to join our nursing team on the Paedaitric Unit at Basildon Hospital.

This role is for a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse. We are a busy Paediatric Unit comprising of two wards, Puffin and Wagtail and the Penguin Day unit.

As a Band 6 Sister/ Charge Nurse, you will take charge as the Nurse Co-Ordinator and provide support to the Children’s Emergency unit and Children’s Out-Patient department .

Main duties of the job

The role involves delivering high-quality care to children and families within the acute paediatric unit while supporting junior team members and helping to maintain a safe, effective service. As an experienced practitioner, the Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse will manage competing demands, coordinate bed flow across the paediatric service, and ensure smooth patient pathways.

The post holder will also deputise for the Band 7 ward managers when required, demonstrating calm, professional leadership at all times.

A key part of the role includes overseeing staffing levels across the paediatric areas to ensure safe and appropriate coverage throughout the service.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • RSCN/RN degree
  • Paediatric nursing experience more than 2 years
  • Involvement in child protection and safeguarding cases
  • NMC Pin

Desirable

  • HDU Course
  • Safeguarding children knowledge and experience
  • APLS/EPALS
  • Experience or awareness of staff management

Communication

Essential

  • Strong written communication
