The Role:
We
invite you to join us as a Specialist Psychiatrist at Haytor Ward, a new role working alongside a
consultant nurse approved clinician (MPAC) or consultant psychiatrist and a
cohesive MDT to provide senior medical inputto this adult acute inpatient ward based at Torbay Hospital.

pathway lead. The trust will fund the first application while submitting the
portfolio.

Main duties of the job
The post holder
will be providing the senior medical leadership within an Acute psychiatric
ward in Torbay.
The post holder
will be available 9-5 Monday to Friday. The post holder will be based on Haytor
Ward, Torbay Hospital.
The post holder will
work within MDT and offer assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients on Haytor Ward, inpatient psychiatric service, as well as other expert clinical
services in support of patients and their families/carers as judged necessary.

Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- Minimum of 12 years medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification of which a minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.

Desirable
- Experience at senior level working in the field of Psychiatry
- Experience of Home Treatment or equivalent
- Delivering supervision of non-medical prescribers
Research
Essential
- Interest in maintaining up to date clinical knowledge base.
Desirable
- Enthusiasm to contribute to research on site.
- Publications in peer reviewed journals.
- IT skills.
Clinical Governance

- Commitment to involvement in on site programme of clinical governance

Clinical Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and physical and psychological assessment of patients.
- Writing comprehensive, clear medical notes.
- Ability to manage crises and act independently.
- Ability to manage potentially violent and disturbed patients.
- Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
- Working knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Good knowledge of relevant Mental Health legislation including the MCA.
- Good knowledge of clinical risk management.
- Good knowledge of evidence-based strategies for management of psychiatric disorder
Desirable
- Up to date CPR training.
- Ability to apply psychological models to practical situations.
- Understanding of NHS organisational arrangements including social care
Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent
- GMC registration.
Desirable
- Membership or Affiliateship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.
- Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983.

- Meets professional health requirements
- Ability to be independently mobile across a geographical area in a timely manner including urgently and in accordance to service need
