We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse /ODP to join our highly specialised Theatre Team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to world-class care within a leading children’s hospital, supporting infants, children, and young people with complex and specialist needs.As a Band 6 Senior Staff Nurse/ODP at GOSH, you will provide visible clinical leadership, coordinating high-quality, compassionate, and family-centred care. You will act as a role model for best practice, supporting and supervising junior staff, student nurses, and newly qualified colleagues, while working collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

You will play a key role in clinical decision-making, patient safety, and service improvement, ensuring care is delivered in line with Trust policies, safeguarding standards, and national guidance. A strong commitment to embedding GOSH values, promoting inclusion, and supporting continuous improvement is essential.You will demonstrate excellent communication skills, advanced paediatric nursing competence, and the ability to lead and prioritise care in a complex and fast-paced environment. Academic/Professional qualification/Training

Essential

  • NMC Registered Nurse/HCPC ODP (appropriate to clinical speciality)
  • Relevant accredited qualification relating to clinical specialty
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relating to clinical speciality

Desirable

  • Assessor or practice supervisor qualification/experience

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

  • Experience of having worked with acute/chronically sick children or specialised transferable skills
  • Understanding of professional and current issues in children’s nursing
  • Understanding of the importance of research and evidence-based practice
  • Basic knowledge of computer skills
  • Understating or evidence of fulfilling requirements for Revalidation
  • Understanding of safeguarding issues according to Trust policies and procedures
  • Understanding of principles of clinical governance (e.g. risk management, audit, quality)
  • Previous experience in the theatres (preferably in a NHS setting)

Desirable

  • Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH
  • Knowledge of clinical incidents and complaints and reporting
