Job summary
Applications in this case are welcomed for a consultant post in Clinical Haematology (General Haematology) with a sub-specialty of SI in Lymphoma and Myeloma.
This is a 10 PA Consultant Haematologist post at United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, in addition to any current on-call commitments allocated to the role.
This post is primarily based at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with consultant colleagues to further develop both the clinical and laboratory Haematology services, which operate across the Trust.
Any applicant who is unable for personal reasons to work full time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

The appointee will be expected, in conjunction with their colleagues, to provide a comprehensive service for Haematology to the United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job
In addition, the post holder will be required to:
- Undertake such other duties as may be identified to meet the needs of the service
- Take part in a consultant rota for emergency duties currently 1:11 (weekdays) / 1:12 (weekends) frequency, and to provide, on a reciprocal basis, cover for colleagues during periods of annual or study leave.
- Carry out teaching duties as required and take an active part in the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Medical Education programmes, in the teaching of junior medical staff and to be involved in the education of technical and nursing staff.
- Provide professional supervision and management of trainee medical, technical and other staff.
- Attend regularly department meetings.
- Have continuing responsibility for in- and out-patients in their care and for the proper functioning of the department.
- Participate in East Midlands Cancer Alliance and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
- Take part in the clinical governance programme.
- Be involved in research where appropriate.
- Actively participate in the management of the services of the Care Group.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Certifications
Essential
- MRCP (UK) or equivalent / FRCPath or equivalent
- Full GMC Registration
- Entry on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC) Register
Desirable
- An appropriate higher degree e.g. an MD, PhD or equivalent
Management
Essential
- Evidence of understanding management issues.
- Evidence of understanding and involvement in audit.
- Understanding of clinical governance.
Desirable
- Management training or qualification.
- Evidence of leadership in the development of clinical services.
Experience / Research
Essential
- Extensive experience and training in general clinical haematology
- Experience of involvement in clinical research and audit
- Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
Teaching & Training
Essential
- Experience of undergraduate / post graduate training for doctors and other disciplines
Desirable
- Teaching diploma / qualification.
