Job summary
We are looking to recruit 1.0 Senior Dosimetrist (Band 7) to come and join our friendly team here at the Worcester Oncology Centre.
You will be expected to rotate in Planning and Mould room areas.
2026 will be an exciting year for us with the start of our full (CT and Linac) equipment replacement program as well as the installation of SGRT (crad).
Where are we? We are based in purpose-built building on the Worcestershire Royal Hospital site, with beautiful views of the Malvern Hills and the Cotswolds. Worcester is a thriving city on the banks of the River Severn, close to areas of outstanding natural beauty. We have close links to the M5; Birmingham, Cheltenham and Bristol are all within easy reach.
We are a small friendly team of approximately 7 Planners, 9 physicists, 3 engineers and 35 radiographers. We have 3 Elekta Linacs, 2 of which are capable of 4DXVI as well as a superficial unit and a Cannon wide bore CT scanner as well as Raystation planning system. We are paper light utilizing Mosaiq.
We strive to ensure that all patients are treated in a supportive and calming environment. As a result, we offer excellent facilities for patients including Advanced practice roles, Radiographer led clinics as well as site specialist radiographers.
Main duties of the job
- The Radiotherapy Physics service provides technical support to the Radiotherapy service. The key aspect of this role are
- to undertake, alongside other dosimetrists and clinical scientists, the production of treatment plans and manufacture of associated devices
- to solve clinical problems related to treatment planning or associated manufactured devices
- to facilitate the development of advanced practice roles into the Dosimetrist team
- to communicate with external providers / manufacturers in support of the departments goals to undertake relevant research and development activity
- The post holder is required to plan their own workload, organise their own projects and prioritise requests. They will need to adapt schedules several times a day in response to unpredictable urgent requests or developments.
Person Specification
Experience
Essential
- Significant experience in radiotherapy treatment planning. Able to create and optimise simple and complex treatment plans for a range of clinical sites
- Expertise in the delineation of organs-at-risk for radiotherapy treatment planning
Desirable
- Extensive experience in IMRT/VMAT
- Extensive experience in the manufacture of immobilisation devices and lead / cerrobend products
Skills
Desirable
- Able to operate radiotherapy treatment and dosimetry equipment safely.
Knowledge
Essential
- Specialist knowledge and understanding of the principles and practice of: IMRT/VMAT, Mould Room and Treatment Planning.
Desirable
- Knowledge of the principles and practice of dose measurement and linac quality control
Other Job Requirements
Essential
- Able to plan and organise own workload to meet targets (including patient appointments, planning clinics and quality control schedules).
- Able to plan and organise the workload and training for small groups. Able to supervise trainees.
- Able to manage the workload of the treatment planning and mould room teams
- Able to communicate technical information, verbally and in written reports.
- Able to communicate complex information to distressed and terminally ill patients and carers.
- Able to achieve co-operation of children and confused adults in the taking of impressions and fitting of immobilisation devices.
- Competent with basic computer operation and able to analyse data by creating or modifying spreadsheets.
- Able to work as part of a team.
Desirable
- Able to use the Raystation treatment planning system.
- Able to prepare and deliver presentations using Power-Point or equivalent.
Qualifications
Essential
- A Vocational Degree in Therapy Radiography.
- IPEM Diploma in Clinical Technology or equivalent.
Desirable
- Membership of the Voluntary Register of Clinical Technologists or State Registered Radiographer (HCPC)
