Job summary
The post offered is that of a full-time Specialty Doctor in Older Adult Psychiatry, working within the Barnet OPCMHT. This is a new and additional post within Older Adult Community Services division. It is a great opportunity to gain a great deal of experience and knowledge working in Older Adult Psychiatry. It has arisen due to additional funding to support and enhance service delivery due to increased referral rates due to aging population within the borough.

Qualifications
Essential
- Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) with a current licence to practise from the GMC at intended start date.
Desirable
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists UK or equivalent
- Additional degree or equivalent
Clinical Experience
Essential
- Completed a minimum of 12 years’ medical work (either continuous period or in aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification Section 12 Approved or eligibility for it.
- A minimum of six years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades. Equivalent years’ experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including from overseas will also be accepted.
- Training and clinical expertise in assessment, diagnosis and management of older (>=65) adults with functional, organic and mental disorders

Desirable
- Experience in teaching with ability to use a wide range of teaching techniques and audio-visual aids
- Clinical supervision skills training
Clinical Skills
Essential
- Excellent clinical skills in interviewing and assessing patients with psychiatric symptoms.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and written
- Familiarity with a wide range of theoretical and clinical approaches.
- Ability to provide medical leadership to the multi-disciplinary team and to function as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team
- Ability to manage crises and act independently
- Confidence in assessing and managing physical health problems and emergencies.
Desirable
- Clear thoughts on how to involve service users in service development and to provide a service which is experienced as being “service-user friendly” Practical experience in a short term psychological therapy
