ENT Consultant – Head & Neck, Thyroid, Parathyroid and Laryngology

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Job summary

We are looking for an ambitious ENT surgeon with an interest in diagnostic head and neck practice, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, to join our friendly and forward-thinking team at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, primarily based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester.

This is an unusually open brief for a district general post: alongside a busy general and head and neck workload, you will have a genuine opportunity to develop our laryngology service, working closely with our speech and language therapy colleagues to build something that does not yet fully exist here.

If you enjoy one-stop neck lump and thyroid clinics, the diagnostic puzzle of head and neck presentations, and want a service to shape rather than simply staff, this role is built for you. You will work within a 1 in 12 network on call across Winchester, Southampton and Salisbury, giving you a stable district general base alongside close working relationships with colleagues across a wider network — useful both for shared on-call resilience and for building referral pathways and joint clinics as the service grows.

Main duties of the job

This is a full time general ENT consultant post with a special interest in diagnostic head and neck practice, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, and the development of laryngology services.

The post will be primarily based at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital (Winchester). Work is also carried out at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, and it is a requirement of the role that you are prepared to work at any additional or different location owned or served by the Trust, on an ongoing or temporary basis, according to the needs of the service.

You will be expected to take an active part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training, and to contribute to the management of the clinical service and its ongoing development — including the development of the laryngology service in partnership with speech and language therapy colleagues.

You will participate in clinical and other service activities with the aim of ensuring a consistently high standard of patient care.

Together with consultant colleagues, you will be responsible for the provision of ENT services to Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
