Job summary
This is a fixed term appointment for one year for a 7 PA Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist. The post is within male medium-secure rehabilitation and recovery and the community forensic service, within the Forensic Directorate of East London NHS Foundation Trust.
The vacancy arises following the commissioning of a new ward. The post is based at John Howard Centre, 12 Kenworthy Rd. London. E9 5TD.
The successful candidate will look after 10 patients on Ludgate Ward, a prison admission ward. They will be provided with an office and support services at the John Howard Centre.
The post is available from 01 October 2026.
Main duties of the job
1. The post-holder will hold consultant responsibility for the inpatients on Ludgate Ward and will provide clinical leadership to the ward. Please see JD/PS for further details.

Qualifications
Essential
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
Desirable
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
- Additional clinical qualifications.
Eligibility
Essential
- Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
- Included on the GMC Specialist Register
- Approved clinician status
- Approved under S12
Desirable
- In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Transport

- Ability to travel within East London and between clinical sites
Clinical Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Knowledge and understanding of forensic psychiatry
- Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
- Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
- Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
- Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
Desirable
- Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
