Main duties of the job

The University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS) is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a motivated, compassionate, and enthusiastic individual to join our Trust-wide Research Team as a Senior Clinical Trials Assistant – Imaging Technician (Band 4) within the Ophthalmology Research Service.

This is an excellent time to join our expanding and forward-thinking research service, where you will play an important supporting role in delivering a wide portfolio of clinical trials and contributing to improvements in patient care and innovation.

As a Senior Clinical Trials Assistant – Imaging Technician, you will support the coordination and delivery of clinical research studies, working under the guidance of experienced imaging technicians /research nurses and principal investigators. The role combines practical clinical skills with research support duties, including undertaking ophthalmic imaging, assisting with study procedures, and ensuring accurate data collection in line with study protocols.

You will work closely with the R&D department, research teams, and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure studies are delivered efficiently, safely, and in accordance with regulatory and governance standards.

Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

Essential

  • ‘A’ Level/NVQ3 or equivalent in a relevant subject area
  • Complete Care Certificate or NVQ3/ foundation degree in Healthcare-related subject
  • Evidence of continuing professional development and willingness to undertake further training
  • Significant relevant clinical experience in a patient-facing healthcare clinical role
  • Experience of data management
  • Interest in Clinical Research.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, work under own initiative and independently outside the dept without direct supervision.
  • Able to prioritise tasks and cope with deadlines
  • An understanding of confidentiality issues
  • Ability to work in a large, open plan office where there may be noise distractions
  • Willing to travel to various locations in and around Southampton

Desirable

  • Degree/ higher education or equivalent
  • Experience of clinical research.
  • IT related qualifications
  • ICH GCP Trained
  • Venesection experience/ willingness to learn
