Job summary

This is a post within the Kent Oncology Centre, based at Canterbury, providing services to patients from East Kent. This post holder will be responsible for providing a systemic & radiotherapy oncology service for patients requiring Uro-oncological treatment.

Main duties of the job

The Kent Oncology Centre in West Kent is based at Maidstone Hospital. The Trust manages the Oncology centres based at both Maidstone and Canterbury. These services form an integral part of Kent’s Cancer Services.

The post holder will join our team of medical and clinical oncologists to take a major interest in Uro-Oncology. We have a well-established oncology research department, providing the opportunity for the post holder to run and develop clinical trials.

This Consultant post is based at the Oncology Centre based at Kent and Canterbury Hospital situated in the cathedral and university City of Canterbury. Known for its historical and cultural importance, Canterbury is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and has high-speed train links to London along with many visitor attractions and close by villages.

As a member of the Kent Oncology Centre there will be a commitment to participate fully in a Kent wide approach to the delivery of cancer care. This includes attendance at governance meetings, multi-disciplinary team meetings and the practice of cross-referral with other site specialists.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full GMC registration or equivalent
  • FRCR / MRCP of equivalent
  • Specialist Registration as a clinical oncologist or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the advisory appointments committee

Desirable

  • Higher qualification in medicine
  • Research degree (MD / PhD)
  • Clinical experience in relevant tumour sites

Skills

Essential

  • Enthusiasm for developing tumour site specialisation and Cancer Services in Kent and Medway
  • Ability to organise and manage

Desirable

  • Experience in clinical audit and research
  • Experience in medical education
