We are delighted to invite applications for a 6-12 month fixed term post as a Junior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Emergency Medicine. We welcome applications for posts starting in September 2026 or February/March 2027. We welcome applications from candidates looking to work on both a full-time and less than full time basis.

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is intended to provide between 6 to 12 months of Paediatric Emergency Medicine in a major trauma centre. It is aimed at early to mid-stage Emergency Medicine or Paediatric trainees (ST1-3 equivalent), or trainees undertaking an ‘FY3’ Year between Foundation Training and Specialty Training, looking to gain further experience in Paediatric Emergency Medicine.

Our Junior Clinical Fellow post is designed to enable the post-holder to start/consolidate PEM skills in the well-supported environment of a friendly Paediatric Emergency Department, while getting the bonus of being in a major trauma centre with exposure to a huge range of expertise and support.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will join a highly motivated, consultant led team delivering high quality emergency care to East London. The department receives a full range of emergencies from the local area in addition to major trauma from North East London and Essex with a total of 180,000 patients seen each year including 40,000 paediatric patients.

The post includes SHO level duties in the paediatric emergency department working on a full shift rota. Junior clinical fellows have 24/7 clinical supervision from paediatric emergency medicine consultants and registrars. The post holder will have a named educational supervisor responsible for developmental and pastoral supervision.

Candidates must hold full registration with the GMC with a licence to practice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent degree
  • Full GMC registration

Desirable

  • MCEM, MRCPCH or equivalent
  • Up-to-date APLS certificate
  • Other postgraduate degree

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 2 years of post-graduate clinical experience including F1 and F2 years or equivalent

Desirable

  • Minimum 4 months of experience in either paediatrics or emergency medicine

Knowledge

Essential

  • Ethos of lifelong learning and a desire to continually gain and improve knowledge and skills

  • Experience of teaching a range of audiences
  • Evidence of participation in clinical governance, quality improvement, or research activity
