Job summary

We are looking for a new Band 6 Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Nurse to join our team and help run the day-to-day services provided by our current IBD nursing team. The successful candidate will work alongside the IBD Specialist Nurses and MDT, providing support, advice and improved access for both inpatients and outpatients at the Royal London & Mile End Hospital with IBD. Responsibilities will include telephone assessment of patients, face to face clinical review and involvement in the planning and delivery of biological therapies. This is a full-time permanent position, which will suit a dynamic and motivated nurse with an interest in the management and care of IBD. The candidate should have a desire to develop their knowledge in this area, providing an excellent opportunity to do so within an establishedIBD specialist nursing team. Training and supervision will be provided within the role from both nursing and medical supervisors, along with opportunities to attend relevant study as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

This is a senior nursing post within the Trust which will combine clinical, educational, audit, research and managerial skills in order to enhance IBD management within Barts Health Trust. The post holder will provide support to patients, families and the staff caring for them, and function as a resource and an advocate in the specialty. In collaboration with the multi professional team they will influence patient care ensuring that patients with IBD receive the highest standard of clinical care and have access to the full resources of the multi professional team in hospital and community settings.

Qualifications

Essential

  • RGN Level 1.
  • Relevant Degree or commitment to working towards.
  • Commitment to relevant career development opportunities.
  • ENB 998 or equivalent.
  • Advance Comunication Skills training or commitment to taking.

Desirable

  • Enthusiasm to present at conferences / write for publication.

Experience

Essential

  • Post registration experience, including recent experience in a GI setting.
  • Experience in providing multi professional education
  • Experience / enthusiasm to participate in audit or research

Desirable

  • Management experience.
  • Experience of leading on service development projects.

Skills

Essential

  • Generally competent in computer skills.
  • Cannulation and venepuncture skills.
  • Ability to provide formal and informal teaching to all disciplines.
  • Ability to participate in audit.
  • Experience at breaking significant news.
  • Ability to manage a caseload of patients independently.
  • Ability to work alone and under stress.
  • Ability to work as part of a multi professional team.

Desirable

  • Expertise in symptom management and psycho- social support.
