We are excited to invite an enthusiastic, motivated Band 6 OT to join our expanding community therapy team, which involves inclusion in Intermediate Care (IC) and Urgent Community Response (UCR) — supporting people across one of the most stunning rural coastal communities in the NHS.

We welcome applications from Allied Health Professionals with relevant experience and transferable skills.

The successful AHP applicant will have access to continuing professional development (CPD) opportunities and professional networks to support ongoing professional development and professional registration requirements

A relocation package can be considered to support candidates moving to the Whitby area.

Main duties of the job

Be professionally accountable for your own area of clinical responsibility, ensuring the delivery of evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions for a specialist caseload across a variety of community and intermediate care settings.

Follow the full Occupational Therapy process, including assessment, joint goal-setting, intervention planning, implementation, and evaluation, in line with standard operating procedures. Contribute actively to multidisciplinary care planning as a core member of the MDT.

Demonstrate and maintain specialist clinical skills, providing high-quality, person-centred care. Offer support, training, and clinical advice to patients, relatives, colleagues, managers, and external agencies to promote safe and effective practice.

Support individuals experiencing difficulties with everyday activities due to disability, illness, trauma, ageing, or long-term conditions, enabling them to maximise independence and quality of life.

Contribute to the Urgent Community Response (UCR) service, helping to prevent avoidable hospital admissions and facilitating timely, safe discharges from hospital.

Delegate interventions appropriately to ensure evidence-based care, effective use of skill mix, and smooth patient flow across services.

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential

  • Diploma or Degree in Occupational Therapy
  • Full understanding/application of relevant clinical practice/standards/audit within identified clinical area
  • Specialist understanding of relevant clinical practice, standards and protocols within identified clinical area.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working as a community based Occupational Therapist
  • Leadership qualification/equivalent experience if required
  • Teaching qualification or equivalent presentation skills/training experience
  • Evidence of continuing learning and CPD

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of case load management within specialist service area, some of which may be complex
  • Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the clinical area at a specialist level of care

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of Trust policies and procedures.

Skills and competencies

Essential

  • Effective inter-personal skills and experience in supervising and fieldwork education/mentorship
  • Able to demonstrate effective communication skills and work flexibly within the team/service
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to motivate staff to embrace change

Desirable

  • Ability to manage daily operations and maintain a safe working environment
